The Galilean Log
June 2011
From the Pastor
A young boy went into a grocery store and asked the clerk for a box of “Duz” detergent. The clerk asked what it was for.
“I’m going to wash my dog with it” the boy answered. “Well son,” the clerk said, “that Duz detergent is pretty strong stuff.” But the boy insisted that Duz detergent was what he wanted.
A few weeks later the clerk recognized the boy when he came into the store again and asked the boy “How’s your dog?” The boy answered, “I’m afraid he died.” “Oh, I’m sorry,” said the clerk, “but I did try to warn you about that Duz detergent.” “Well,” said the boy shaking his head, “I don’t think it was the Duz that did it. I think it was the rinse cycle that got him.”
Sometimes we feel like we have been through the rinse cycle too, don’t we. Maybe those feelings are due to struggles or conflict or stress in life. Of maybe they are due to feelings of boredom, loneliness or meaninglessness. Whatever the cause, those feelings do come sometimes and at those times we struggle, just like Jesus struggled with Satan in the wilderness.
But there is hope. In the midst of the trials there is help in Jesus who says to us: “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28) He calls us to come. He tells us He will carry the burdens. He promises that in Him we can find peace.
God really does care about us. That is great news, at all times, even when we feel like we have been through the rinse cycle!
May God’s peace be with you today! Pastor Randy

From the President’s Desk
May was an emotional month. It was filled with both sadness and happiness. I lost a friend too young and a little girl’s life ended too quickly. I prayer for my friends family and hoped that her faith would help her get through this tough time, which I believe it did. As the sadness of the week seemed to consume me, I came to church for the graduate’s recognition. The joy of the day and spirit seemed to lift me up. happiness and joy again reigned!
We congratulated our high school graduates with a wonderful service! Congrats to Drew, Kelsey, Kayla, Zach, and Sam. It has been a great privilege watching you grow up into the fine adults you are today! I wish you the very best on your future endeavors. I know that each of you will succeed in life with whatever you do!
We will also be welcoming our new pastor soon. Pastor Scot McCluskey accepted the call to Galilean and will have his first day with us on Sunday, July 24, the day on which he will be installed. More details will be forthcoming on his welcoming to Galilean.
I would like to thank Pastor Randy for his assistance as interim pastor during this transitional time. He has done a remarkable job and will also, be missed! I wish him the best of luck in his future also. Be sure to stop in and thank him in the upcoming days.
God Bless, Leanne Hicks ~

Youth Notes to Note
The Youth met on Wednesday evening, May 18 for a potluck supper at State Park, Clear Lake. After a wonderful meal, the youth challenged the parents to a friendly softball game. Even though the parents had a ‘few years’ on the youth, they rose to the challenge and defeated the youth! A lot of fun and razing was had by all.
The summer finds us not as busy with the youth group but still have things planned. On June 5th we will meet at 6:00 pm for Miniature Golf in Clear Lake followed by a trip to a ice cream stand. On July 9th the youth will meet at the church for a camp-over at 5:00 pm. Bring your tents, sleep gear, food if you want (or we will have food for supper and breakfast) etc. we will have a campfire, great food, games, and whatever else we can or want to do. If any of the youth cannot come at 5 pm, come when you can. It will conclude on Sunday morning at church service time. Hopefully we will have a good turnout, fun times to be had by all!
August: events to be determined, probably a get together to plan the new year.
The youth gives their thanks to the congregation for all the support they have shown in the past months and look forward to having Pastor Scot and his family join our family at Galilean.
Have a great summer!!

GOD...Always Answers Prayer
When the idea is not always right God says, “No.” No ~ when the idea is not the best. No ~ when the idea is absolutely wrong. No ~ when though it may help you, it could create problems for someone else.
When the time is not right, God says, “Slow.” What a catastrophe it would be if God answered every prayer at the snap of your fingers. Do you know what would happen? God would become your servant, not your master. Suddenly God would be working for you instead of you working for God. Remember: God’s delays are not God’s denials. God’s timing is perfect. Patience is what we need in prayer.
When you are not right, God says, “Grow.” The selfish person has to grow in unselfishness. The cautious person must grow courage. The timid person must grow confidence. The dominating person must grow sensitivity. The critical person must grow tolerance. The negative person must grow in positive attitudes. The pleasure-seeking person must grow in compassion for suffering people.
When everything is right, God says “Go!” Then miracles happen: a hopeless alcoholic is set free! A drug addict finds release! A doubter becomes as a child in his belief. Diseased tissue responds to treatment, and healing begins. The door to your dream suddenly swings open and there stands God saying: “Go!”
IF the Lord has you on hold…. hold on!
If the Lord has said “NO” to you… thank him!
If the Lord is molding your heart and mind...go with HIS change!
If the Lord opens the door that you have been asking Him to open… Praise Him!
Be Blessed wherever you are in your life today! God has His hands on every situation!!
